Affordable Care Act Speaker: Sheldon Weisgrau

The College of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparents programs brought an essential speaker to Fort Hays State’s campus on Tuesday. Approximately 100 students and community members were in attendance for the event. The event was free and open to the public.

Sheldon Weisgrau, Director of the Health Reform Resource Project, gave a presentation which was brimming with information about the newly implemented Affordable Care Act. His presentation included the strength of the health care industry today, what the Affordable Care Act would do to improve the system, and the myths surrounding the ACA.
After the presentation, Weisgrau opened the floor for the audience to ask questions pertinent to health care reform.

The Health Reform Resource Project is a foundation-funded initiative that was created to provide education to consumers about the implementation of health care reform and the Affordable Care Act in Kansas, according the Fort Hays State University website.

Sheldon Weisgrau has 30 years of experience in health policy, and has worked in the public, private, and non-profit sectors of the health care industry, according to the Fort Hays State website. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and a Master’s Degree in Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins University.
