For the second time this season, the Fort Hays State University women’s basketball team is on a seven-game winning streak. On Thursday, February 8, the Tigers improved to 19-4 on the season and 10-4 in MIAA action with a dominant 71-53 victory over the Northeastern State RiverHawks.
FHSU continued their winning ways with a stellar defensive performance. The Tigers forced 14 turnovers and held the RiverHawks to 37.3% from the field. Additionally, Fort Hays only trailed 2-0 and increased its lead to double figures just midway through the second quarter. From that point on, FHSU maintained a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game.
The Tigers won the rebounding battle 41-30, with 15 boards being on the offensive end. Fort Hays also shot 41.5% on the night and connected on eight three-pointers.

Emma Stroyan led FHSU with 14 points and four rebounds. Taylor Rolfs and Carly Heim added 10 points each, followed by Whitney Clampitt with nine points. Tatyana Legette finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Meanwhile, Heim, Kacey Kennett, and Belle Barbieri each had five rebounds.
For Northeastern State, Joi Bertrand led the RiverHawks with 13 points. Cailyn Long and Lauren Woods each finished with nine points. Long also had five rebounds.
Looking ahead, the Tigers (19-4 overall, 10-4 in MIAA) will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma to face Central Oklahoma (18-5, 9-5) on Saturday. On the other side, Northeastern (9-12, 5-9) will finish a two-game homestand when they host Nebraska-Kearney (18-4, 10-4).
