SGA: Allocations and Higher Education

BY NATHAN JOHNS

The Student Government Association held a meeting on Thursday, November 16, at 7 pm. 21 senators were in attendance at this meeting.

The meeting opened with President Brandt talking about her meetings with the Kansas Board of Regents. She states that these meetings were focused on the importance of higher education and how it can be promoted throughout the state.

Another key point in this meeting was the discussion of EOF allocations. There was one appeal made by Patty Griffin on behalf of Academic Advising and the Career Exploration Center. She claims that they were denied funding because they have a graduate assistant. She claims that the graduate assistant is not enough to cover the heavy workload they have to deal with.

There was one bill and one waiver voted on at this meeting. Bill 17/F/105, regarding a request for funding by Tiger Pals, passed with a vote of 19 in favor and two abstentions. Tiger Pals plans to use this funding to buy new reading material for the children and to maintain the basketball courts on 13th street. Waiver 17/F/102, allowing the Women’s Leadership Project to apply for funding, passed with a vote of 20 in favor and one abstention.

SGA will hold their next meeting on Thursday, November 30, at 7 PM in the Memorial Union Black and Gold Room.
