Eventful Week for UAB

BY KADRAE SMITH

This week has been an eventful one!

The second week of classes proved to be a change of pace as teachers began preparing students for test and assigning quizzes. Luckily the FHSU University Activity Board (UAB), is there to provide us with some evening activities to keep us active and having fun.

This week (Aug. 28 – Sept. 1) the UAB brought us music, comedy, and free food. Lot’s of it. It all started off on Wednesday Aug. 29 with an evening of laughter the Stand UP NBC Tour Starring the musical comedian JR Guzman and is opening act Ismael Loutfi. Both Comedians commented on how they never heard of Hays KS, and how much they loved coming here.

The next day was Grocery Bingo, in the Cody Commons. Over 100 students were in attendance ready to win the amazing prizes. With the UAB president Trey Basa hosting the event as the MC. Students had a lot of fun, playing bingo, and breaking up ties with extreme rock paper Scissors.

On Thursday, UAB wrapped up the week with RIPE, a Funk Rock band from Boston Massachusetts. The band rocked the audience with Cover songs, mashups, trumpet solos, dancing, and an amazing lead vocalist.

“Oh goodness, their energy that they provided at the show was phenomenal. I’m glad the students has a great time” said the UAB Vice President of Music, Jesse Cooper.

As the band was finished playing almost all attendees got in line to meet members of the band.

“I am from Toronto, and didn’t know anything about Hays, KS, but I am glad that we came out, FHSU is amazing!”

UAB’s next event will be Josh Vietti, a Hip-Hop Violinist, on September 7th at 5:45 in the Lewis Field.
