Men’s Basketball Adds KeShawn Wilson for 2017-18 Season

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball head coach Mark Johnson announced the signing of KeShawn Wilson for the 2017-18 season on Thursday (May 18). Wilson is a junior transfer from Southwestern (Iowa) Community College, the 2017 NJCAA Division II National Champion.

 

Wilson is a guard who stands at 6 feet, 2 inches. He helped the Southwestern to its first national title in program history during the 2016-17 campaign. As a sophomore, he averaged 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 45.2 percent from the field overall, including a 39.7 percent clip beyond the 3-point line, while hitting at a 74.6 percent rate at the free-throw line. His season high in points was 31, coming in a game where he buried six 3-point field goals. He buried 75 3-point field goals for the season.

 

As a freshman in 2015-16, Wilson averaged 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He shot 43.4 percent from the field overall, which included a 41.9 percent effort beyond the 3-point line, and 63.2 percent from the free-throw line that season. A game in which he buried eight 3-point field goals helped him to a season high of 30 points.

 

“We’re excited to have KeShawn join our program,” said Johnson. “Coming from a national championship team, he’s a winner with a high basketball IQ and a good all-around player. He can handle the ball and shoot it well, and possesses good athleticism. He brings a competitiveness to our team we look forward to have.”

 

Wilson is a native of Lincoln, Neb., where he played prep ball at Lincoln High School. As a senior he averaged 14.6 points per game and he was a three-time all-state honorable mention selection in Nebraska Class A.

 

Wilson is the second transfer to sign with the Tigers for the 2017-18 season. He joins Calvin Harrington (Northeast (Neb.) CC) as junior college transfers committing to FHSU next season. Overall, the Tigers have announced the addition of three players for next year so far with Nyjee Wright (Wichita, Kan., Derby High School) as the lone high school signing.
