HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State baseball team continues MIAA play this weekend (March 31-April 2) when they travel to play Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla. First pitch from Rousey Field is set for 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday before a Noon start on Sunday.
The Tigers head into the three-game set looking to improve upon their 8-19 (1-12 MIAA) record. The RiverHawks sit at 14-11 this season and 8-6 in the league, including a 10-2 mark in Tahlequah this year.
Northeastern State leads the all-time series with FHSU, 6-5, including a 2-1 margin in games played at Rousey Field. This will be just the second trip to Tahlequah all-time for the Tigers, and the first since 2013.
Fort Hays State is hitting .275 as a team this season, including four players at .300 or better. Ty Redington and Nick Hammeke have been consistently getting on base at the top of the lineup, tying for the team lead with a .317 batting average. Trevor Hughes paces the squad with 21 RBI on the year while Dayton Pomeroy leads the way with five home runs. The pitching staff has earned a 7.51 ERA to date, led by Sam Capps’ mark of 3.89. The junior also leads the team with 42 strikeouts this season, tied for fifth in the conference.
The RiverHawks are last in the conference with a team batting average of .252, led by Dakota Morse batting .310 on the year. Jordan Payne leads the team and is tied for seventh in the league with seven home runs to date. The NSU hurlers have compiled a 4.95 ERA through 25 games this year. Dustin Berrong leads the team with a 3.10 ERA, striking out 26 primarily out of the pen.
