Tennis Falls at Emporia State

 

EMPORIA, Kan. – Fort Hays State fell in a conference match at Emporia State on Friday afternoon (Mar. 17) by a score of 8-1. The Tigers moved to 8-5 overall, 0-3 in the MIAA, while the Hornets went to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the MIAA.

Nicole Lubbers gained the only point for the Tigers by winning her No. 5 singles match in three sets. She won by scores of 7-5, 1-6, 10-7. Her sister Natalie Lubbers nearly pulled off the same feat in her No. 2 singles match, but she fell in the tiebreaking set 10-8. She had won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 6-2.

Emporia State took command of the match by winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Natalie Lubbers and Lauren Lindell pushed Griffey and Ramos to a close 8-6 decision. The other two matches were decided by scores of 8-3 and 8-2 respectively.

The Tigers still search for their first conference win of the season at Washburn on Saturday (Mar. 18).
