Fort Hays State had a solid showing in their first indoor meets of 2016. Half the team went to Kearney, Nebraska to attend the two-day UNK Charlie Foster Pre-Holiday Classic on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 9-10), while the other half went to Manhattan, Kan. to participate in the K-State Winter Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 10).
Kolt Newall topped the high jump by clearing 6’8″. It was right on the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Finishing right behind him was teammate Kal Hamm who cleared 6’3.5″. Kyle Comstock picked up a third place finish running the 60 meter hurdles in just 8.49 seconds. Additionally, Gavin Rothenberger added a third-place finish for FHSU in the long jump, leaping a distance of 22’5.75″.
Sophomore Sam Dreiling also claimed a provisional mark in the pole vault with a 15’11.25″ effort to win the event. He is eighth on the national performance list with the mark. Derek Bixenman posted a provisional as well with 4,668 points.
In Manhattan, Dillando Allotey set a school record in the 300-meters. He broke the old record of 35.50 set by Rodrigo Alves in 2015 by finishing fourth in the event after crossing the finish line in 35.11 seconds. In the mile run, Brett Meyer crossed the line second in 4:17.92.
The Tigers will take some time off for the holidays but jump back into action on Saturday (Jan. 21) when they head back to Kansas State for the Deloss Dodds Invitational.
