ADA, Okla. – Fort Hays State women’s soccer players Hannah Smith and Baylie Schmitz were named to the D2CCA All-Central Region Team on Wednesday (Nov. 16). Both earned second team selections at their respective positions. They have helped the Tigers to their best season in program history with the team currently in the Central Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament.
Smith was named to the All-MIAA First Team earlier this season and earned MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. Smith has started all 22 matches for FHSU, producing four goals and two assists for 10 points. This is the first all-region honor from the D2CCA for Smith, who also earned all-region honors from the NSCAA in 2014.
Schmitz was named to the All-MIAA First Team earlier this season, helping anchor one of the best defenses in the Central Region. She has started all 22 matches and played 1,680 minutes, helping the team to 12 shutouts this year and just a 0.6 goals against average.
Smith and Schmitz are the first all-region selections for FHSU since the 2014 season.
