After nearly a week off, the 25th-ranked Fort Hays State men’s soccer team hits the pitch again on Saturday (Oct.15) at 7 pm for a non-conference matchup with the University of Mary. FHSU enters the matchup at 7-3-1 overall, while the Marauders are 6-5 on the year. The Tigers won the prior meeting between the teams earlier this season by the score of 6-1 in Bismarck, N.D.
Derick Gonzalez and Luis Torres are leading the Tigers this season with six goals each. Maurizio Costa leads the team in points with 14 (4 goals, 6 assists) and has recorded a point in all but three matches this season.
Goalkeeper Michael Yantz’s 18 career wins place him second all-time at FHSU and just three back of the record of 21. The record is currently held by Kent Freund, who played for the Tigers from 2011-14. Yantz is currently 5-3-1 this season.
Jordan Pearce is the main offensive threat for the Marauders, finding the back of the net seven times this season. In the first matchup with the Tigers, Pearce had Mary’s lone goal in the 87th minute.
