HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team improved to 7-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA on Friday (Oct. 7) with a 2-1 comeback win over Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats dropped to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Danielle Wolfe gave the Bearcats the lead in the 50th minute when she beat freshman keeper Megan Kneefel. Jessica Breyfogle beat a Tiger defender and sent a ball into the box. Wolfe was able to out jump everybody and placed a header into the back of the net.
Jasmine Beaulieu singlehandedly evened the score in 53rd minute when she scored her first goal of the season. She gained control of the ball around midfield and the sprinted up the left side leaving her defender in the dust. About 12 yards out she riffled a shot to the right side of the net that the sprawling Bearcat keeper could not stop.
Dani Harris gave FHSU a 2-1 lead in the 80th minute when she found the back of the net for a second time this year. Beaulieu sent a long ball into the box that Harris was able to corral and then in a one-on-one fired a shot out of the keeper’s reach.
Kneefel was huge in the final minute when a Bearcat attacker broke free from the Tiger defense. With a one on none situation, Kneefel laid out to her right getting her fingertips on a ball and redirected it just outside the post to seal the game for the Tigers. She picked up her second win of the season with two saves and is now 2-0 on the year.
Next up for the Tigers is another key MIAA matchup on Sunday (Oct. 9) when they welcome Missouri Western to Hays. Kickoff is set for 11 am.
