Tiger Women’s Soccer Look to Bounce Back From First Loss; Faces Washburn and Emporia State

FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION DEPARTMENT

The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team looks to get back on track Friday (Sept. 23) when it plays at Washburn in a non-conference matchup beginning at 6 pm. The Tigers enter the match up 4-1-1 on the season, while the Ichabods are sporting a 3-2 record. On Sunday, the Tigers open MIAA play at Emporia State at 2 pm, looking to avenge their only loss of the season.

The Tiger defense has performed phenomenally through the first six games. As a unit, the Tigers have allowed just three goals all season and have limited opponents to just 15 shots on goal all season. The three goals allowed ranks third in the MIAA as Central Missouri has yet to give up a goal this season, and Northeastern State has surrendered two so far.

Offensively, the Tigers are currently tied for the top spot in the MIAA in goals per game (3.0) and assists per game (2.5). Four Tigers find themselves in the top 10 of the conference for goals scored this season. Eden Stoddard is second with five goals, Thalya Dwyer is tied for third with four, Kelsey Steffens is tied for sixth with three, and Kylie Thomas shares the eighth spot with two. Four Tigers find themselves tied for the fourth slot in the MIAA with two assists each, including Steffens, Jasmine Bealieu, Darby Hirsch and Vianei Sanchez.

Emily Stauffer is the main threat for Washburn on the offensive end. She is tied for seventh in the MIAA in points with seven (3 goals, 2 assists). Between the pipes, the Ichabods use a two-goalie system that has been successful so far as they have held opponents to just four goals all season. Riley Boomer has allowed just one goal in her two games, and Kaitlin Minnich has limited the opposition to just one goal a game in her three starts.

Emporia State handed FHSU its first loss of the season in non-conference play this past Sunday in Hays. The teams played to a scoreless tie through regulation before Emporia State cashed in on a 2-on-1 breakaway situation in overtime.
