KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State University women’s golf team was ranked seventh in the 2016 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, released Wednesday morning (Aug. 31) by the conference office. The Tigers received 23 points in the voting process.
Northeastern State, the defending MIAA Champions, and Central Oklahoma finished in a tie for first, splitting the 10 available first place votes while receiving 77 total points each. Missouri Western was picked third with Lindenwood close behind in Fourth. Central Missouri rounded out the top-five, with Northwest Missouri and Nebraska-Kearney picked just in front of FHSU. Southwest Baptist came in ninth with Lincoln finishing 10th in the voting.
The Tigers return all eight golfers from last season, including sophomore Hannah Perkins, who finished 24th at the MIAA Championships. Head coach Rich Guffey added a pair of freshman to the roster, making the week-to-week competition that much tougher.
FHSU will travel to Tahlequah, Okla. to open the season in the NSU Women’s Classic on September 12-13.
