This weekend, Tigers in Service is offering a chance for students and faculty at Fort Hays State University to volunteer and help aid in wildfire relief efforts in Barber County.
The organization plans on transporting 20 volunteers to Medicine Lodge on Saturday, where participants will have the opportunity to help a local rancher remove barbed wire and other items destroyed in the fire.
Hailee Spresser, a representative for Tigers in Service, believes that it is important for members of the Fort Hays community to show their support for the people of Medicine Lodge, and hopes that Tigers in Service can provide some much-needed aid. “We hope to give our time to the people who need it most. When a tragedy strikes, we just want to do anything to help the people who have been affected.”
As a result of the wildfires, many local farmers, and ranchers in Medicine Lodge have been left devastated, and Tigers in Service wants to provide relief in any way they can.
Spresser highly encourages students and faculty at the university to volunteer on this trip because it will not only benefit the people of Medicine Lodge but also help participants grow as people. “The mission of Tigers in Service is to educate, motivate, and provide opportunities for FHSU students that allow them to become better citizens. We hope to see them continue on a pathway of commitment to service at local, state, and national levels.” Spresser stresses that Tigers in Service is always in need of more volunteers and that she hopes students and faculty seek out ways in which they can give back to the world around them.
There are still many spots available for the Medicine Lodge trip, and students and faculty can reserve their spot by emailing service@fhsu.edu
