Fort Hays State sends three wrestlers to the final weekend of competition this Friday and Saturday (Mar. 11-12) at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. Adam Ludwin (125), Bradley Little (149), and No. 6 Jon Inman (184) are the wrestlers representing the Tigers. The two-day event will take place at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Wrestling action begins at 11 am on Friday. The first session will last until approximately 1:30 pm. Session two of day one will run from 6 pm to 9:30 pm. On Saturday, the action is set to begin at 10 am and run until about 3 pm. The Parade of All-Americans will start at 6:40 pm and the Finals will start at 7 pm.
Ludwin punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career after placing third in the NCAA West Super Regional two weeks ago. The senior is currently 25-11 on the season and has now hit 20+ wins for the fifth consecutive year (one redshirt season and four varsity). Ludwin will wrestle Giuseppe Penzone (21-17) of Tiffin in the first round, with a second round contest against either Zach Brown of West Liberty or No. 3 Brett Valquez of St. Cloud State.
Little heads to the NCAA Championship for the second consecutive year after his fourth-place finish at the NCAA West Super Regional. Little went 1-2 at last year’s championship, falling just short of advancing to day two. This season, Little is back with a 24-9 record and will take on the No.1 wrestler at 149 pounds, Findlay’s (Ohio) Nic Goebel (36-4) in the first round. Looking forward, Little will either take on No. 5 John Hagerty of Maryville (Mo.) or Dominick Nania of Wheeling Jesuit in the proceeding round.
This is the third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships for Jon Inman who was the runner-up at the NCAA West Super Regional. The junior has put together his best season as a Tiger with a record of 35-2 and looks to advance to the second day of the event for the first time in his career. Ranked sixth nationally, Inman will go up against Cody Spinks (23-2) of Alderson Broaddus (W. Va.) in his first match of the day. The following round will pair him against No. 3 Aero Amo of Augustana, or Brandon O’Neill of Ashland (Ohio).
