This meeting of the Student Government Association was called to order on Thursday, February 18th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Black and Gold Room, Memorial Union on the campus of Fort Hays State University.
Executive Reports
Vice President Morgan announced that senators’ office hours should be used to help Community Relations Director Avalos, address envelopes for the Big Event.
Treasurer Taylor restated all of the allocations and reported that the process turned out great.
Legislative Affairs Director Brant announced that Tiger Day at the Capital was cancelled due to calendar changes with the legislators.
Community Relations Director Avalos restated the office hour requirement for addressing envelopes for the Big Event. She also reported that a press release was sent out for the Big Event. Lastly, she mentioned that she worked on a Project Proposal which everyone is eligible to sign up a project for the Big Event.
Committee Reports
Sen. Johnson from Appropriations reported a bill is up for 2nd reading, 3 bills are up for 1st reading, and next week 4 bills will be up for 1st reading.
Sen. Devore from Senate Affairs reported that the committee worked on bylaws during their session.
Installation of New Members
Magali Lozoya was sworn into Senate in the department of College of Arts and Sciences.
New Business
Bill 16/S104, 16/S105, and 16/S106 had their first readings.
Old Business
Bill 16/S101 – Public Safety and Awareness:
Sen. Devore motioned this to a vote, Sen. Hand seconded. Sen. Templeton asked to have a representative talk about it. Brett Bruner discussed the request to fund half of the salary for the new commission graduate assistant for sexual assault. Bill passed with 17 votes.
Bill 16/S103 – Appropriations
Sen. Lindsey motioned the bill to a vote. Sen. Rahjes seconded. Sen. Hand asked for a representative from Sigma Phi Epsilon to speak. The President of Sigma Phi Epsilon mentioned that the funding in question is a for training program for executive officers for them to bring leadership skills back to campus. Bill passed with 17 votes.
Announcements
Legislative Affairs Director Brandt announced that KBOR approved the honorary degree.
Sen. Dinkel reminded everyone they can apply to be a student ambassador, contact her with questions.
Sen. Garcia announces the Times Talk on Tuesday at 12 pm in the Forsyth Library.
