Fort Hays State heads to Joplin, Mo., on Saturday to take on Missouri Southern. Game time is set for 3 pm at the Leggett and Platt Center. FHSU enters at 15-8 overall and 9-8 in the MIAA, while the Lions are 14-10 overall and 11-7 in the MIAA.
The Tigers are looking to snap a six-game losing streak on the road. The Tigers have not claimed a road game since December, when they won a pair in conference play at Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist. It will not be easy as the Tigers face a Missouri Southern squad that took them to overtime in Hays earlier this year before FHSU won 84-83.
Fort Hays State shot over 50 percent from the field and only turned the ball over eight times on Thursday night, but it was still not enough to take down a red-hot shooting Pittsburg State team. The Gorillas won by a score of 101-92. The Tigers are tied for fifth place in the MIAA standings at 9-8 with Washburn. Missouri Southern is currently in fourth place at 11-7 in the conference.
Craig Nicholson produced season highs in points and assists with his second consecutive double-double. He had 22 points and 11 assists at Pittsburg State on Thursday. He reached 600 assists in his career with his 10th assist of the game. Nicholson now leads the MIAA in assists per game (5.0).
Rob Davis continues to lead the Tigers in scoring at 17.4 points per game. Dom Samac averages 15 per game and Jake Stoppel adds 10.9 per game.
Missouri Southern is coming off a five-point loss against Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday night. Prior to that, the Lions had won three in a row, including a pair on the road at Emporia State and Washburn. Taevaunn Prince leads the MIAA in points and rebounds, averaging 27.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
