This meeting of the Student Government Association was called to order on Thursday, February 4th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Black and Gold Room, Memorial Union on the campus of Fort Hays State University.
Guest Speakers:
Dr. Mike Barnett, VP for Administration and Finance reported on the overall shuttle service. In the first week there were 407 riders, in week two there were 923 riders, and week three had 539 riders, which totaled 1,869 riders who have used the shuttle so far. He also stated that they are in discussion about an express route for the shuttle.
Lizette Avalos, from Stripes for Hope talked about the annual letter writing fundraiser coming this year. In the past Stripes for Hope has raised over $200,000 dollars. To participate in the event, attendees must bring 50 addresses, and the will receive a t-shirt and a chance to win prizes. The event will be March 1st from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Avalos also mentioned that President Martin will be there too.
Executive Reports:
President Gonzalez participated in the hearing workshops this week. He also met with Dr. Nicholson to discuss reducing underage drinking in the community and for FHSU students.
Vice President Morgan reminded everyone that the final allocation deadline was February 5th, and that her office hours will be used to take the Safe Zone training.
Legislative Affairs Director, Brandt reported that Higher Education Day was cancelled due to the weather. She announced Life Line 911 was passed, and reminded everyone that applications for Tiger Day are due February 10th.
Committee Reports:
For Appropriations Senator Johnson had a hearing request at the meeting.
Student Relations and Involvement, Senator Agnew discussed the shuttle services and an upcoming event.
New Business:
Bill 15/S114 – Appropriations had its first reading.
Announcements:
Senator Garcia thanked everyone for participating in Voter Registration Week, and announced that there would be a Storm Chasing meeting Tuesday at 12:00.
Senator Templeton announced that Stripes for Hope will be selling Cancer Sucks t-shirts this week from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
