KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State men’s track and field finished second among six schools competing at the UNK Invitational, held on Saturday (Feb. 6). The Tigers had two individual champions as they finished only behind meet host Nebraska-Kearney.
Individual champions for the Tigers were Israel Barco in the 800 meters and Feysel Rahmeto in the 3000 meters. Barco ran a time of 2:00.11 in the 800 meters and Rahmeto ran 9:12.23 in the 3,000 meters. Nikolous Rempe was also a scoring factor for FHSU, finishing second in both the 800 meters (2:05.11) and the mile (4:36.15) to generate 16 team points.
Jordan Carroll hit a provisional in the triple jump once again at a distance of 47 feet, 1 inch. However, it did not improve on the provisional mark he already owns in the event this year of 47 feet, 5.75 inches, which ranks 32nd in the nation. He finished third in both the triple and long jump.
As a team, FHSU scored 147 points, while Nebraska-Kearney won the event with 157.5. Hastings was a distant third with 77 points.
