KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State women’s track and field placed second out of five schools competing at the UNK Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 6). The Tigers finished only behind Nebraska-Kearney in the team standings, while collecting four first-place finishes in events.
Selam Ball matched her best effort in the pole vault this season, which is also a provisional qualifying mark, of 11 feet, 7.75 inches. She won the event with the effort and sits in 28th on the national performance list.
Also victorious were Kelly Wycoff in the 200 meters and Jordan Schulte in the 600-yard run. Wycoff finished with a time of 26.40 seconds, while Schulte covered the 600 yards in 1:39.49. The pair teamed up with Mindy Wilson and Yamoudji Diarra to win the 4×400-meter relay in a time of 4:22.51.
The Tigers finished with 147 team points, behind the 191 generated by Nebraska-Kearney. Hastings was third with 116.5.
LINCOLN, Neb. – While the majority of the team competed at the UNK Invitational, Micki Krzesinski and Shea Bonine competed in distance events at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. Krzesinski made the most of her opportunity running against several competitors from NCAA Division I programs by setting two new Fort Hays State records.
Krzesinski ran a time of 10:09.95 in the 3000 meters, besting her old school record set last year by 8.02 seconds. In the 5000 meters, she ran a time of 17:34.43. She shattered the old record of 17:55.69 set by Heidi Hines in 2012 by 21.26 seconds.
Bonine competed in the mile and ran a time of 5:11.26.
