Four Tigers Victorious at UNK Pre-Holiday Classic; Ball Hits Provisional Mark

KEARNEY, Neb. – Fort Hays State’s Selam Ball hit a provisional qualifying mark in the pole vault on Saturday (Dec. 12) at the Charlie Foster Pre-Holiday Classic hosted by Nebraska-Kearney. She, along with three other Tigers, were victorious at the team’s second meet of the indoor season.

Ball reached a height of 11’7.75″ in the women’s pole vault, jumping six inches higher than the second-place finisher. The mark was right on the provisional qualifying standard. Ball is the third Tiger to post a provisional mark in the indoor season, joining Jordan Carroll and Jake Morrow of the men’s team.

Mandy Wilson was victorious in the triple jump with an effort of 36’5.5″. She won the event by 2.5 inches. On the men’s side, Rodrigo Alves won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.92, while he finished second in the 60-meter dash in 6.95 seconds. Kyle Comstock won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.42, but he ran 8.35 in the prelims.

The Tigers had several other top-three performers at the meet. Lexi Riedel finished second in the 200 meters (26.33 seconds), Brett Meyer was third in the 800 meters (2:02.75) and 1-mile run (4:33.08), Kolt Newell tied for third in the high jump (6’4″), Jordan Carroll was third in the long jump (22’9″) and second in the triple jump (46’5.25″).

The Tigers take a break before returning to action in the latter part of January.
