Tiger Soccer Teams have 24 named to MIAA Academic Honor Roll; Three Named Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State men’s and women’s soccer combined to land 24 student-athletes on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Both teams had 12 honorees. Three earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete honors – Michael Yantz for the men and Baylie Schmitz and Gabrielle Makatura for the women.

To be a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. To earn Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must earn All-MIAA status in their respective sport and carry a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Members of the men’s team on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll include Michael Yantz, Luan Silva, Joe Albright, Tobias Patino, Luis Torres, Damion Cooper, Addison Pauler, Maurizio Costa, Drew Wilson, Brian Ness, Daniel Kelly, and Tyler VanCamp.

Members of the women’s team on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll include Abbie Flax, Kelsey Steffens, Baylie Schmitz, Hannah Jurgens, Jasmine Beaulieu, Dani Harris, Mallory Diederich, Gabrielle Makatura, Silvana Romero, Vianei Sanchez, Ember Albertson, and Regan Lawler.

Yantz earned All-MIAA Second Team honors with a 12-5-1 record and five shutouts, which ties for the most in the MIAA. Yantz is a sophomore from Warsaw, Ind., majoring in Finance and has a 3.85 GPA. Makatura received the Scholar-Athlete Award for the second straight year. The senior from Lakewood, Colo., was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention selection this season and she is majoring in International Business with a GPA of 3.77. Schmitz is a sophomore from Littleton, Colo. earning all-conference honorable mention honor as well at defender. She is majoring in nursing and has a 3.8 GPA.
