Coming off one of the biggest wins in program history against a No. 1 ranked Central Missouri squad this past Sunday, the Fort Hays State women’s soccer team looks to extend their three-match win streak in the MIAA this weekend against two familiar foes. The Tigers take on Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Okla., on Friday (Oct. 9) before heading to Edmond, Okla. to take on the conference’s first place team, Central Oklahoma, on Sunday (Oct. 11).
The Tigers enter this weekend with a 6-4 record overall and tied for second in the MIAA at 3-1. So far in conference play FHSU has outscored opponents 6-3 in four matches and hopes to keep up the tempo.
Kristen Thompson has spent most of the season between the pipes for FHSU playing 732:15 of the 912:15 possible this season and has picked up five wins.
Northeastern State is currently in a four-way tie for second place in the MIAA with FHSU, Central Missouri, and Southwest Baptist at 3-1. The RiverHawks are 8-1 overall on the season and have outscored opponents 30-5 by averaging three goals per match. NSU has had a total team effort this season with 12 players recording at least one goal on the year. Leading the well-rounded offense is Anastasia Robinson and Jennifer Cudjoe, both with six goals on the year.
Central Oklahoma tries to remain undefeated in MIAA play as they take Nebraska-Kearney Friday (Oct. 9) in Edmond before welcoming the Tigers to town on Sunday. Despite only outscoring opponents 17-16 on the season, the Bronchos have put together a 3-0-1 record in the MIAA and a 6-3-1 record overall. UCO has utilized four different goalkeepers on the season with three of the four recording a decision. All three with decisions have at least one win. The offensive leader for the Bronchos is Kentia Kokis, who has netted seven goals and tossed in one assist this season.
