Albert and Stangler Earn MIAA/Astroturf Football Athlete of the Week Honors

Fort Hays State’s Treveon Albert and Jordon Stangler each earned MIAA/Astroturf Athlete of the Week honors on Monday (Sept. 21) following their efforts in the 30-7 win at Lindenwood this past Saturday. Albert was named the Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week along with Washburn quarterback Derek McGinnis, while Stangler was named Special Teams Athlete of the Week.

Albert rushed for 144 yards and threw for 101 yards in the road win at Lindenwood. He averaged 8.0 yards per carry on the night, giving Fort Hays State a 100-yard rusher for the sixth consecutive game dating back to last season. It was his third career 100-yard rushing game. He connected with Andrew Flory for a 38-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to put FHSU up 7-0, his longest pass of the night.

Stangler averaged 38 yards per punt in Fort Hays State’s 30-7 win over Lindenwood. Three of his nine punts resulted in drives starting inside the 20 yardline and he had two punts of over 50 yards on the night with 58 as his longest. One punt resulted in a touchback. Stangler also recorded a tackle on special teams following one of his punts.

Fort Hays State has now had an MIAA/Astroturf Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first three weeks of the season. Running back Shaquille Cooper was named Offensive Athlete of the Week following each of the first two weeks of the season. Stangler is the first Special Teams Athlete of the Week for Fort Hays State this season.
