The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team’s offense was on full display Friday (Sept. 18). The Tigers improved to 2-3 on the season with a 3-0 non-conference win at Nebraska-Kearney.
Kelsey Steffens, the team’s leading scorer in 2014, scored her first goal of the season when she got a ball from Gabrielle Makatura’s corner kick and sent it into the back of the net at the 55:23 mark.
Ember Albertson then broke away from the UNK defense and scored her first goal of the season on a breakaway with 22:16 left to play to push FHSU’s lead to 2-0.
Hannah Jurgens joined the offensive fun too when she netted her first goal of the season on an assist from Cassi Moosburger in the 76th minute.
The defensive effort was strong as FHSU goalkeeper Kristen Thompsonrecorded her second shutout this season by stopping the only two UNK shots on net.
Next up for the Tigers is another non-conference road matchup at Emporia State on Sunday (Sept. 20th) at 2 pm.
