The 14th-ranked Fort Hays State men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2015 season on Friday (Sept. 11), a 4-2 setback at UC-Colorado Springs. The Tigers trailed 1-0 at halftime and saw the deficit grow to three before scoring two quick goals to get back within one. However, the rally came up short and UCCS tacked on one more goal to push FHSU to 2-1 on the season.

The Tigers were outshot 20-6 in the match. Goalkeeper Michael Yantz took his first loss of the season, yielding the four goals. He did make seven saves as UCCS put 11 shots on net.

The Tigers had just two shots at halftime, but instantly got back in the match down 3-0 when Maurizio Costa (62:01) and Mauricio Castorino (63:54) each scored goals within a two-minute time span. The Tigers couldn’t apply much more pressure though and UCCS put the game out of reach with a goal in the 72nd minute.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday in a top-25 match at CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves are ranked No. 12 in the nation.
