TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The 14th-ranked Fort Hays State men’s soccer team had a successful open to the 2015 season with a 3-2 win over Missouri Science & Technology on Friday (Sept. 4). With over 50 minutes of action with no goals, the Tigers scored twice quickly to build a 2-0 lead and held on late to win.

Mauricio Castorino beat the goalkeeper in the 54th minute for his first goal of the season to put the Tigers up 1-0. Shortly after David Lucio added an insurance goal on a header off a pass from Maurizio Costa.

The Miners would not go away without a fight and posted a goal to cut the lead to one with just over seven minutes remaining.

A late foul in the 18-yard box led to a Tiger penalty kick, buried by Costa to push the FHSU lead to 3-1.

The Miners added another late goal in the final minute of the game, but it was too little, too late as the Tigers held on for the 3-2 victory.

The Tigers have another game in Tahlequah on Sunday (Sept. 6) as they take on former MIAA foe Truman at 11:00 am.
