Fort Hays State fell to Washburn in a single non-conference contest on Wednesday night in Topeka. The Ichabods posted a 13-0 shutout over the Tigers by run-rule in seven innings. Fort Hays State (15-28) had nine reach base and eight were left on as they could not scratch out a run against three Washburn pitchers. Ichabod starter Zach Linquist went five innings and allowed just three hits and struck out four. Hank Wellborn allowed one hit in his inning of work, and Spencer Schwandt also allowed one hit in an inning of work. Linquist moved to 3-3 on the year for the Ichabods.Washburn (27-17) did all of its scoring damage in the first through fifth innings. The Ichabods plated three in the first, two in the second, four in the third, and two in both the fourth and fifth.
Alex Cox took the loss for FHSU. He went 2.0 innings in his start, allowing five runs on four hits with a strikeout. Trevor Rinne allowed four runs in 0.2 innings of work. Will Amen allowed three runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings, recording one strikeout. Clayton Basgall went 2.0 innings and allowed one unearned run.
The Tigers now turn their focus to a four-game conference series this weekend to end the regular season at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. The teams will play the series Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
