Tiger women continue to receive votes in WBCA rankings

Fort Hays State continued to receive votes in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Women’s Basketball Top 25 Poll, grabbing 25 votes in the most recent rankings, releasedTuesday (Dec. 2) by the organization. The Tigers (5-1) have received votes in the first two regular season polls, and open MIAA play this week with the No. 21 team in the nation while riding a four-game win streak.Emporia State moved into the No. 1 spot after sitting second in last week’s poll, carrying a perfect 5-0 record, while No. 7 Washburn (6-0) and No. 8 Pittsburg State (7-1) join the Hornets in the Top 10.

Central Missouri arrives in Hays this week ranked 21st, matching the Tigers with a 5-1 record on the year. Both FHSU and UCM dropped contests to NSIC foes earlier this season. The Tigers fell to then-No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul (70-68) in the second game of the year, while the Jennies dropped their season opener to Minnesota State-Mankato, 70-68. UCM has been ranked in the Top 25 for 32 straight weeks, dating back to January 2013.

Game time for Thursday, Dec. 4 is 5:30 p.m. from Gross Memorial Coliseum, and is the only regular season matchup between the two teams this year. FHSU last defeated UCM in 2012, knocking off the Jennies (ranked No. 23 at the time), 95-50, in Hays. This year, the Tigers were picked fourth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while UCM was tabbed fifth.

FHSU is joined in the receiving votes section by Missouri Southern, which grabbed 29 tallies in this weeks’ release.
