At 10 a.m. Friday in Gross Memorial Coliseum, President Mirta Martin will be installed as the ninth president of Fort Hays State University.
The Kansas Board of Regents appointed Martin the ninth president of FHSU on May 2, which became effective July 1.
Born in Havana, Cuba, and an immigrant to the United States, Martin uses her interpersonal and cultural expertise to work diligently to promote access to affordable educational opportunities.
To make the event even more fun and to thank students for their participation, the names of nine students will be randomly drawn to receive book scholarships. Students are asked to bring their Tiger ID card, as this is how eligibility will be determined. The drawing will take place the week after the inauguration ceremony.
A shuttle service will be provided from the main campus to the coliseum See map for information about shuttle times and locations: Inauguration Map and Parking
In honor of the inauguration, Chartwells will offer a 9 percent discount at all locations in the Memorial Union (Starbucks, Grab ‘n’ Go, Mondo’s Subs and Union Station) on Thursday and Friday.
Everyone is asked to wear their Tiger Gold to the inauguration.
“The Inauguration of a Fort Hays State University president is a once-in-a-generation event,” Martin said. “As residents of Hays, Ellis County and our region, you are part of the Fort Hays State family, and I want you to celebrate with me. This is our inauguration, not just my inauguration.”
Everyone who attends the inauguration will receive a commemorative coin as a keepsake.
A reception will immediately follow the ceremony in adjacent Cunningham Hall.
For those unable to attend the inauguration in person, a live stream of the inauguration will begin shortly before 10 a.m. CST. The ceremony will also be broadcast in Hays on Eagle Channel 17 and Nex-Tech Channel 102.
