Women’s Soccer season ends short of NCAA Tournament

Fort Hays State Women’s Soccer saw its 2014 campaign come to an end just short of an NCAA Tournament berth, after the 48 teams were announced during the Division II Women’s Soccer Selection Show on Monday evening.

FHSU was ranked seventh in the previous three Central Region rankings, with the top six scheduled to advance to postseason play.  The Tigers, seeded third in the MIAA Tournament last week, defeated Missouri Western (1-0) in the opening round before falling to second-seeded Southwest Baptist (1-0) in the semifinals.

Headed to the NCAA Tournament from the Central Region is: (1) Minnesota State-Mankato, (2) Central Missouri, (3) Augustana, (4) Southwest Baptist, (5) Winona State and (6) Central Oklahoma.

Highlights for the Tigers this season include the first two All-MIAA First Team Selections in program history (Mallory Diederich and Hailey Davey), eight overall All-MIAA selections, a 12-4-2 regular season record (best regular season record since the team’s inception) while finishing 13-5-2 on the year and recording a school record 11 shutouts.
