Volleyball begins final week of regular season at No. 13 Washburn

Fort Hays State Volleyball continues its season-ending roadtrip on Tuesday in Topeka.  The Tigers will take on No. 13 Washburn at 7 p.m. from Lee Arena.

FHSU is 6-4 over its previous 10 matches, dropping the previous three after breaking off five consecutive wins that pulled the team back to .500.  At 13-16 overall (and 7-13 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) headed into the final two games, the Tigers cannot break even for the year, but could set a new school record for conference wins.  The Tigers’ seven MIAA wins matches the most ever for FHSU since joining the conference in 2006.

Over the last 10 contests, Mallory Flagor‘s 101 kills leads the team, while Taylor Mares (91 kills) is a close second.  Flagor has added 33 blocks on the defensive side of the net during that span, third on the team behind Callie Christensen (45 blocks) and Rebekah Spainhour (39 blocks).

Setter Raegan Vanderplas has started eight of the previous 10 matches, averaging a team-high 6.13 assists per set as part of a two-setter formation, joined by Kristin Conor (4.97 assists per set).

In the back row, libero Keanu Bradley has dug up 213 attacks in the last 10 games, adding to her team-leading total of 575 for the year.  Bradley’s 5.37 digs per set average currently leaves her No. 4 all-time for a single-season during FHSU’s NCAA Division II era.

FHSU closes out the season on Saturday at Emporia State.
