FHSU’s annual Majors and Graduate Programs Fair is a way for students to explore available paths for their lives, whether that be new majors or a minor they find interesting. The fair also offers students the opportunity to grow into who they want to be.  Lisa Karlin, interim director of career development at FHSU, spoke about the goals of the career fair.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to come and find out about the different departments on campus, the majors, the minors, certificate programs, and graduate programs that they offer,” Karlin said. “Freshmen who are in the Freshmen seminar course have an assignment that’s related to this, so they’re coming as well, but all students are welcome to come and learn about programs.”

The fair offers a variety of programs from several departments to spark the interests of young students; from Informatics to Chemistry, there was no shortage of opportunities. Assistant Professor of Art and Design Thomas Giebler said the fair is important for students to attend.

“It’s nice for students who already have a major but maybe only like a specific part of it and want to explore other opportunities that focus on their certain interests,” he said. “A student last year named Taylor who was really big into graphic design graduated with three jobs interested in her thanks to the career fair. It’s really a great way to find jobs that speak to you and find new opportunities you might have never thought you’d like”

Students also see how attending the fair impacts them and their future careers.

“I felt good. I feel like it’s good to make connections and learn about different majors and careers and stuff,” he said. “It’s very good to explore different options and kind of figure out what I want to do in the future.”
