SGA intalls 11 new seantors, approves 2 bills

The Student Government Association met for its regular meeting on Thursday morning and installed 11 new senators. 

In new business, five bills were up for first reading.

Bill No. 26.F.113 proposed a trip request for the International Student Union. They requested $1,750. The Senate recommended $650 for mileage and $150 for registration.

Bill No. 26.F.114 proposed that Braylee Kinderknecht be considered for a Senate seat as an At-Large Senator.

Bill No. 26.F.115 proposed that Abdulgafar Uthman be considered for a Senate seat as an International Student Senator.

Bill No. 26.F.116 proposed that Johnny Cash Thomas be considered for a Senate seat as a Senator for the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship. This bill was moved to emergency business, voted on, and passed. 

Bill No. 26.F.117 proposed that Mitzil Carrillo Maldonado be considered for a Senate seat as an At-Large Senator.

Three bills were up for a vote during old business. 

Bill No. 26.F.104 proposed a trip request for Rahmatoulaye Thialaw Diop, who requested $1,453.47. The Senate recommends a total of $500, split between airfare ($ 250) and hotel ($250).

This bill passed unanimously.

Bill No. 26.F.105 proposed a line item change for the Student National Association of Teachers of Singing. The bill requested that $1,050 be moved from the line-item “West Central Region NATS Conference Accompanist Fee” to $600 for the line-item “West Central Region NATS Conference Hotel” and $450 for the creation of the new line-item “West Central Region NATS Conference Registration.”

This bill failed due to a lack of representation.

Bill No. 26.F.106 proposed a line-item change for the Accounting Club that would move $200 from the line item “Educational Trip Airfare” to the line item “Educational Trip Hotel.”

This bill passed unanimously

Announcements: 

  • Alpha Sigma Alpha is hosting Dogs on the Quad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 5.
  • SGA Open Forum at Beach/Schmidt Performance Center at 7:30 p.m. on October 5.
  • Delta Zeda has a 5K on October 10, with a $20 entry fee.
  • LDRS 310 needs volunteers for Family Literacy Night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on October 23.

SGA will reconvene at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
