The Student Government Association met for its regular meeting last Thursday.
SGA’s executive staff said they are planning their annual Senate retreat for Nov. 14. Nothing is set in stone, but President Marcell Dely said it would be a good opportunity for bonding.
Delly and Vice President Justus Nelson attended a meeting with the Kansas Board of Regents, where they discussed higher education issues, including how to help students prepare for Higher Education Day. They also discussed the dropping rates of international students due to uncertainty about the student visa process.
Additional discussion with KBOR focused on mental health and on how to increase mental health support on campuses.
Nelson urged senators to connect more with international students and bring their concerns to SGA leadership.
“Reach out to your international student friends in your classes and see how they’re doing,” Nelson said. “What are some possible avenues that we can go now to helping them on campuses? This is a very uncertain time for the entire campus population of international students.”
There was no old business.
In new business, the Senate considered Bill 26.F.103, which involved moving $3,400 across different lines in the Finance Club. After being moved to emergency business, the bill passed unanimously.
