Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) is introducing a new campus tradition this year with the debut of “SigEp Safari,” an annual philanthropy week designed to increase student engagement while supporting children in the Hays and Ellis County communities.
According to SigEp’s Director of Finance Tony Arial, the idea for the event grew from both inspiration from other SigEp chapters and the fraternity’s desire to become more involved on campus.
“SigEp Safari is our new annual philanthropy week, and it came about from inspiration from other chapters of SigEp and our pursuit to get more involved on campus and run our own philanthropy week,” Arial said.
The weeklong event will feature several activities, with a highlight being the anticipated bake-off competition. Arial said excitement is building as participation continues to grow.
“I’m excited the most for the bake off because this year it is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever,” he said.
Arial said the safari theme was chosen for its memorable alliteration and branding appeal.
Proceeds from SigEp Safari will support Big Brothers Big Sisters, the fraternity’s national philanthropy partner. Arial emphasized the cause’s importance, noting that many members are personally involved with the organization.
“We are supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters, and it is important to us because it is our national philanthropy, but also many of our brothers partake in it,” he said. “It helps the children within the Hays community as well as the Ellis County area to have a support system that they otherwise would not have.”
SigEp leaders plan for the event to become a lasting campus tradition.
“SigEp Safari is going to be an annual tradition going forward, and we will maintain it every single year to make it bigger and better than it was the prior year,” Arial said.
Students and community members interested in learning more or getting involved can reach SigEp through its Facebook or Instagram pages.
