The annual Arc of the Central Plains Festival of Trees online auction is live until Monday. This year’s theme is Recycled Reindeer Christmas Market.
The Arc of the Central Plains navigates many areas of Ellis County and the surrounding regions to develop and support programs in Kansas that help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Many of these projects work in conjunction with programs such as WeKan, DSNWK, Buffalo Adventures, and Harvest Hays.
Kathi McAdoo is the executive director of Arc of the Central Plains. She said her favorite part of the holidays is having a December birthday, saying she has always been a “Christmas baby.”
She said the Festival of Trees gets her in the Christmas spirit every year.
“Literally this, just looking at this brings me joy.. So pretty.. Very soothing,” she said.
McAdoo is now a grandmother, and enjoys watching her granddaughters open their gifts because of the excitement. It might only by mid-November, but this event truly begins to lead the community into the festivities leading up to that excitement. Additionally, this event brings many ideas into decorations and gift ideas for loved ones.
Some of the auctioned items during this year’s festival will be wreaths, trees, and larger festive decorations with aesthetics for every family household to enjoy. Some of the themes include old-timey Christmas, some very artistic and unique portrayals, as well as some pretty well-known sports and video game references.
The Christmas wreaths also feature the same themes. While the Auction will be online, there is also an in-person Christmas Market, where these Auction items can be viewed, as well as some smaller decorations on a separate side of the market. This local is a Christmas Market, where many items will be on sale on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The market will feature repurposed Christmas gifts and Market Food goods from Harvest Hays.

The Recycled Reindeer Market is located at 229 W 10th St, Hays, KS 67601. If the Home Event Center is closed, the event will still be open during the times listed above.
Other events to take notice of coming up are The Arc of the Central Plain’s Soup Cook-Off event. It is planned for Thursday at the Home Event Center.
