As the end of the semester approaches, members of the Graduate Association of Students in Psychology Club wanted a way for students to release their pent-up emotions. Their solution? Smashing Pumpkins.

While it wasn’t the 1990s rock band, Friday’s event allowed students to release any unresolved feelings by smashing pumpkins with baseball bats.

“We tend to shove that stress down inside and say that we can deal with it. But that does not work; we end up anxious, depressed, or getting angry with our friends and loved ones,” Club President Kelly Krehbiel said. “So this is one way that we can release that anger and negative emotions.”

Attendees, such as FHSU student Ben White, said they enjoyed the event as a way to relax after classes.

“[I] was feeling very overwhelmed by assignments, and while this did not help me with my assignments, it did help me clear my head,” White said.
