Hays residents are looking down the barrel of another smooth week, meteorologically speaking.

“Kansas is getting into a hot regime caused by upper ridges on a continental level,” said Mark Russell, a meteorologist with the Dodge City National Weather Service.

Residents can anticipate a bell curve in temperatures, beginning cool until they reach the high-80s midweek. In fact, Monday will be the only day with a notably chillier ‘real feel,’ reaching only 59 degrees.

Wind speeds remain average as compared to past weeks. However, there will be a slight uptick on Sunday, when speeds are anticipated to reach 20-30 mph. There are no anticipated precipitation patterns moving through the area.

“Low pressure in Colorado sends winds towards the great plains, but we do have a colder front pushing through. It’ll warm up again after that leading into next week,” Russell said.

While this means sunny days, residents should remain aware of the ongoing fire weather warnings.

“We’re going to be on the cusp of red flag warnings—I definitely wouldn’t be burning anything, especially not during the hottest parts of the day,” Russell said.

Other than the minor fire weather warnings, residents of Hays can anticipate a great week to spend outdoors.
