On Thursday, the Student Government Association had its allocations meeting. During the New Business section of the meeting, the senate moved bill No.25.S.127 to emergency business. The bill strikes bylaw 13.07 and replaces it with a new 13.07 to help the administration of elections. It passed unanimously.
Treasurer Jackson Sinsel and the allocations committee explained that this year had the most club requests and the most amount of money requested at $1.8M; however, to increase the amount given, the student fees would be raised, which would increase the tuition amount.
“We have 66 student groups, so that’s six more than we had last year,” he said. “We had almost $220,000 more in request. Last year, we had $1.6 million; this year you guys requested $1.8 million.”
Sinsel explained the only way to allocate these funds is through a tuition increase.
“Students pay these fees, with every student in this room paying the amount that goes into the allocations fund,” he said. “So this amount is going back to you guys. Unless we charge you more, we can’t get any more money in the account.”
In Old Business, Allocations bill No.25-S-122 was read and moved for a recess to discuss if the Disc Golf Club and Physics and Engineering Club should have their allocations to the allocation account instead. Once the recess ended, it was moved to amend the bill, where the bill stated that the two clubs’ allocation money would be zero and moved to the allocation account; the motion was passed for the amended bill.
Along with the allocation bill, bills No.25-S-123, money for AGC trip; No. 25-S-124, money for mileage and hotel; and No. 25-S-125, money for mileage and hotel; were all passed unanimously.
