Fort Hays State Tennis improved to 5-2 overall for the season with a 7-0 win over Sterling College on Monday (Mar. 10) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The Tigers swept all singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles play, the Tigers yielded just a total of four points. The No. 1 team of Shreethika Vangala and Janae Montoya won 6-2, while the No. 2 team of Suzana Faucz and Irina Alfonso and No. 3 team of Ines Latorreand Yone Pereiro each won 6-1.
Bethan Gill breezed through her singles match the quickest with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of her opponent at the No. 4 position. Grace Unruh (No. 5) and Latorre (No. 6) each allowed just three points each. Unruh won 6-1, 6-2, while Latorre won 6-3, 6-0. Pereiro notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3, while Alfonso won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. Faucz had the closest contested singles match, winning 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). Ines Steeman played an exhibition match but lost in a tiebreaker set.
Fort Hays State welcomes CSU-Pueblo to Hays on Friday (Mar. 14) for a match at 3 p.m.
