Tennis rolls by Bethany

Fort Hays State Tennis improved to 4-2 overall on the season with a 6-1 win over Bethany College on Saturday (Mar. 8) at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The Tigers swept doubles action to pick up the first point of the match and then took five of six singles matches to win handily. Bethany moved to 0-2 on the year.

The Tigers nearly blanked the Swedes in doubles action. The No. 1 team of Janae Montoya and Shreethika Vangala and the No. 2 team of Irina Alfonsoand Suzana Faucz each won their matches by a score of 6-0. Ines Latorre and Yone Pereiro won their No. 3 match 6-1.

All singles matches were straight-set results. Alfonso won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, while Pereiro won by the same scores at No. 4. Bethan Gill yielded just three points at No. 5, winning 6-2, 6-1. Faucz (No. 2) and Grace Unruh(No. 6) each allowed four points, Faucz winning 6-1, 6-3 and Unruh winning 6-2, 6-2. Vangala (No. 1) was the only Tiger to fall, 6-2, 6-1 to Ana Sofia Castillo.

The Tigers return to action on Monday at home in a match with Sterling College at 2 p.m.
