At the Student Government Association meeting last Thursday, Dean of Library Services Ginger Williams provided an update on the ongoing renovations at the library. She discussed the vision behind the project and outlined the timeline for its completion.
The renovations are backed by a $19 million budget, with an additional $3 million being raised through various fundraising efforts. All funding sources for this project have been secured, including grants, community fundraisers, and corporate sponsorships, meaning that no student funds are being used for the renovations.
One of the renovation features she is most excited about is the installation of a bank of windows at the library’s entrance. This design element is intended to increase the amount of natural light flowing into the building, creating a more inviting and welcoming environment for students and visitors.
“There will be two 23-foot windows on the upper story in the front of the library, overlooking the college drive (quad),” Williams said.
In addition to the new windows, the plans also include raising the ceilings to create a more open and airy atmosphere. The overarching goal of these renovations is to transform the library into a space that better meets the diverse needs of students, responding to feedback indicating that the previous environment was not conducive to academic focus and productivity.
“You feel the fresh air all around,” Williams said.
Williams expressed optimism that students will be able to access a section of the library by the fall of 2025, while the entire renovation project is expected to be completed by March 2026.
