Next Saturday on November 16, Mason’s Mourning Light will be hosting the second annual Bowling Bingo Event at Centennial Lanes. Mason’s Mourning Light is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families with infertility and child loss. This event seeks to raise funds for the organization while also providing a place of comfort for struggling families.

“It’s part fundraiser and part community event,” said Kayla Taylor, founder and current president of Mason’s Mourning Light. “Just having families who have lost a child get together and see that they’re not alone. It’s just helping to spread that awareness.”

Aside from wanting to have an indoor event to avoid weather restrictions, Mason’s Mourning Light also hopes to create an atmosphere suitable for all ages, along with creating a unique event.

“We wanted to do something different,” Taylor said. “You see a lot of the same types of activities around town. It gives us something a little unique against others who are trying to help.”

With the organization’s goals in mind, a large part of the event is helping families who have experienced gathering together and build a strong community.

“You get to establish a relationship with other parents,” Taylor said. “A couple ladies that I know started talking to each other last year, and have really found that support from each other.”

Another major part of the Bowling Bingo is its promotion of a fun and casual atmosphere, as another effort to make the event for everyone.

“It’s a fun time, and it’s not a competition,” Taylor said. “There’s really no pressure. Some of the bingo cards are things like bowling a strike, but some are granny style bowling. So people who are really not great at bowling can make it a pretty fun time and not feel like they’re not good enough to come participate.”

With this event, Mason’s Mourning Light has two major goals in mind: bringing families together, and letting people know they are there for them.

“We want to help people know we’re here,” Taylor said. “We’re a fairly new organization, so letting people know we’re here and that people can use us as a resource is important. One of our primary goals is spreading awareness of child loss and how common it is.”

The event is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 16 at Centennial Lanes. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
