The Fort Hays State University Intramurals and Recreational Sports office hosted a pumpkin carving competition on Wednesday where students could take and carve their own pumpkin.
A big point of the pumpkin carving was helping students get into the Halloween spirit if they wouldn’t have the opportunity to otherwise. Intramural Graduate Assistant Tre Pauda explained further.
“It’s a good event for a good purpose,” Pauda said. “It’s to give students a little taste of Halloween in case they miss it back home.”
Intramurals puts on events like this every single year and season, with the pumpkin carving being one of their newest events. Pauda explains exactly how the event, and Intramural events as a whole, affect students.
“It affects them in a good way,” he said. “Especially those who haven’t carved in a while or just haven’t gotten to go out and celebrate Halloween. It really does affect them in a positive way.”
Aside from the snacks Intramural hands out whenever they host their annual events, Pauda gives some more reasons why it’s good for students who have attended.
“It’s just the interaction,” Pauda said. “Just being able to meet new people, celebrate Halloween, and just have fun.”
With the pumpkin carving and the many other events Intramurals are hosting to celebrate Halloween, Pauda explained just what the organization is hoping to accomplish with these scheduled events.
“We really want more people to participate,” Pauda said. “We’re specifically focusing on Halloween right now, but in general, I’m hoping we can just get more numbers and get our program out there. We like to help people out and get them out of their dorms and away from their stressors in life. Hopefully, they can get something beneficial from our events.”
