The Hays Art Council Building has a few new exhibits on display for the public to view and enjoy, “Bits and Pieces,” “Painting with the Sun,” and “Sunset Duets” are currently on display until November 26. The exhibit opened on Friday and aims to spotlight three artists and their works.

“The thing that makes this opening unique is the diversity of the artists that we have,” said Brittney Squire, president of the board of directors for the Hays Arts Council.

“Bits and Pieces” is a gallery of mixed media and collages created by Shannon Trevethan and Tracy Hanzlick that showcases beautiful and creative pieces constructed from various items such as old magazines and newspapers being rolled up and positioned to resemble a bird, or a sculpture constructed from an old radio or clock with smaller pieces creating a scene on the inside.

“Painting with the Sun” is a gallery that focuses on nature and all the wonderful things that it can show to you if you are willing to look for it. For the artist Margie Hammerschmidt, it’s about capturing beauty with her watercolor paintings. With beautiful pieces that can depict a forest clearing, a couple of birds, or just flowers, the viewer can always find something to admire within these works.

“Sunset Duets” are photographs by George Jerkovich and pastel paintings by Debbie Wagner. These paintings and photos capture different sunset scenes. What some would consider to be a truly breathtaking sight to behold at the end of a day is brought to us in this gallery in two different forms, with great attention to detail for both forms.
