By FHSU SPORTS INFORMATION

Fort Hays State and No. 20 ranked Missouri Western played to a scoreless draw at FHSU Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 20). The Tigers became the first team to hold the Griffons scoreless in a match this season. FHSU moved to 6-4-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the MIAA. Missouri Western went to 12-0-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the MIAA.

On a breezy day in Hays, shots were hard to come by in the first half with the Griffons holding a slight 4-3 edge. MWSU widened their advantage in shots in the second half, holding an 11-4 margin by the end of the match. Mackenzie Caldwell saved all three shot attempts the Griffons put on goal, while Keeley Kroonenberg needed to make just one save on the opposing side. The Griffons had all five corner kicks taken in the match.

Allison Worley had two of the four shots taken by the Tigers, while Sydney Cotter and Taylor Hill each took one.

The Tigers gained a point in the MIAA standings, moving to sole possession of sixth place with four matches to play. The Tigers wrap up home regular season contests next Sunday (Oct. 27) with a 2 p.m. match against Washburn.

Fort Hays State Women’s Soccer fell to Northwest Missouri State on Friday night (Oct. 18) by a final of 2-1. The Tigers moved to 6-4-1 overall, 3-3-1 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats improved to 6-2-5 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Bearcats found the winning goal in the 51st minute.

The Tigers scored their goal early, just about three and a half minutes into the action. An Allison Worley shot deflected off a defender right to Taylor Hill who slotted the ball into the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Allison Worley picked up an assist on the play.

The Bearcats responded with a goal in the 18th minute when Adell Gore made a subtle move to create space off a pass from Makenna West. Gore was able to get the ball past Tiger keeper Mackenzie Caldwell for the equalizer. By halftime, NWMSU led in shots 6-5 and both goalkeepers had one save.

The Bearcats took the advantage in the 51st minute off chaos in the box. Ximena Arnau got a shot through traffic off a pass from Ekaterina Theoharidis for what turned out to be the game winner.

Allison Worley led the Tigers with four shots. The Tigers finished the match with a 14-11 edge in shots. Caldwell finished with three saves. NWMSU goalkeeper Lilly Ellis made five saves.
