Since 1902, Fort Hays State University has been a leader in higher education on the High Plains of western Kansas. Each year, thousands of students come to Hays to attend classes for many different reasons. A few Tiger Media Network students share why they chose FHSU and why it is special to them during this Homecoming week.

Each of FHSU’s buildings are unique in their own way. Some look brand new, and others have an aged, classy look. The uniqueness of the buildings relates to how unique each and every student is here at FHSU. Around every corner you turn, there is an aspect of FHSU that is completely unique. The street signs are one of my favorite things to see while walking to class. Although it may seem simple, it stands out and adds detail to FHSU, which makes it feel more like home. FHSU has beautiful greenery throughout its entire campus. Walking through campus, each building has different flowers in the flower bed, and all of the trees are big enough to provide shade during the day. Our landscaping crew does an amazing job, and I know many students recognize – that including myself. Although it seems silly, this car brings me joy every time I walk past it. Coming from my family’s farm, it is joyful to see how something like “farm fresh eggs” is brought onto campus. It is just another small reminder of home that brings comfort on the days that are hard. The bridge is just another simple way FHSU has provided for students. Without the bridge, students would have to walk a good distance out of their way to get to where they are going. The bridge is a reminder that FHSU thinks about students in more ways than one. In almost every building on campus, there is a beautiful view on at least one side of the building. In Hammond Hall, students get to walk past this beautiful view every day. With nature surrounding FHSU, it is amazing to see it play its part throughout our campus. Almost all of the buildings on campus are made of limestone. This gives FHSU’s campus a beautiful look, and it is impressive to see how long some of the buildings have been here.
