City Commissioners voted on two new business items during Thursday’s meeting.
The first was rezoning two tracts of land located at 41st and Sherman. The tracts were General Commercial (C-2). After the property was sold to Lewis Auto Group, the City received a request to rezone the property to Light Industrial (I-1).
“The intention of the property for the new owner is the kind of mechanic service type shop, parts warehouse and potentially a detail or body shop as well,” Director of Public Works Jesse Rohr said.
Rohr went on to say that C-2 and I-1 are very similar zoning codes and many uses allowed in I-2 are also allowed in C-2. However, vehicle repair and service are not part of that overlap, hence the need to rezone the tracts.
“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for an existing business to expand close to their other business,” Vice Mayor Sandy Jacobs said.
The rezoning passed unanimously.
The next agenda item was the annexation of two tracts of land located at 41st and Sherman.
Currently, neither parcel has city water or city sewer and the new owners, Lewis Auto Group would like those services. The utility mains are directly adjacent to the property so there would be no addition to city mains.
“It’s pretty nice,” Commissioner Reese Barrick said. “There’s no infrastructure needed. It’s easily hooked up and it’s already contiguous with the city.”
The annexation passed unanimously.
The next City Commission meeting will be at 4 p.m. on August 22 at City Hall.
