WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped game three against No. 2 Central Missouri Sunday afternoon (March 24), 16-2. The Tigers (18-12, 6-10 MIAA) could not limit the best scoring offense in the country as the Mules (24-4, 14-2 MIAA) came away with the victory.
Fort Hays State managed a to manufacture a run in the fourth. Brady Kreutzer led the inning off with a double, then Trey DeGarmo was able to single up the middle to score Kreutzer. UCM came back strong in the bottom half of the inning, tacking on four more on two hits. Cesar Saavedra continues his hot streak with lead off triple to start the sixth. He eventually scored form an Elliott Herrmann single.
Tiger starter Trevor Baugh went 0.2 innings giving up three runs. Shaun Gomez came in to relieve Baugh, going an inning. DJ Cavazos came in for 0.1 innings, then went to Will Isaly for an inning and a third. Andrew Hansen pitched two innings of his own, giving up five while striking two batters out. Grant Wellbrock came in for the last 0.2 innings to round out the Tiger pitching.
Central Missouri took control immediately, scoring six in the first three innings of play. The Mules starter, Jack Kriesman, was able to go five innings, giving up one run. Jack Scott came in to relieve him, going the remainder two innings.
Herrmann had two hits in the contest, with DeGarmo, Kreutzer and Saavedra contributing the only other hits for FHSU. Trevor Baugh (2-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on one hit, three walks.
The Tigers return home for game two of the season series between Newman on Tuesday (March 26).
